Why Early Lung Screening?

Lung cancer, a term to describe abnormal growth of cell in the lungs, is the top 3 most common cancer in Singapore. Although it is not as often discussed as colon cancer or breast cancer, lung cancer is the number 1 cause of cancer death among both men and women.

Cancer of the lungs can be asymptomatic which can be ideally diagnosed through health screening. For the symptomatic patients, one can present with a persistent cough, shortness of breath, coughing out blood, change in voice or pain in the chest or shoulder. Hence early lung cancer screening is needed.

Early Lung Cancer Screening

At the International Centre for Thoracic Surgery (ICTS), we have put together a health screening plan to screen for early lung cancer. This initial screening is done with EarlyCDT-Lung blood test and a low dose CT scan.

These tests in combination have a high probability in the diagnosis of early-stage lung growth, resulting in as high as 80% chance of cure for lung cancer. The earlier the stage, the better the chances of surgical treatment and the better the chances of cure. Early diagnosis of lung cancer also helps the patient obtain a minimally invasive thoracic surgical procedure - which means faster recovery & shorter hospital stay.

Priced at $1750 (before 7% GST), this Early Lung Screening Programme includes:

Pre-screening clinic evaluation with Thoracic Surgeon, Dr Aneez Ahmed

An in-depth consultation with Thoracic Surgeon Dr Aneez Ahmed to discuss your concerns and screening procedure

EarlyCDT-Lung Blood Test*

EarlyCDT – Lung is a simple blood test to identify if you have an increased risk of lung cancer.

This blood test can detect lung cancer-associated autoantibodies on average four years or more before the standard of care.

Low-Dose CT Scan

Low-dose computed tomography (low-dose CT scan) is a newer form of CT scan that continuously rotates in a spiral motion and take several 3-dimensional X-rays of the lungs.

These scans are very detailed and can show early-stage lung nodules that may be too small to be detected by a traditional X-ray. The smaller the tumour is when discovered, the less likely the cancer had spread. This means more treatment options and a higher chance of survival.

This scan is quick and painless; it takes only 1 minute, there is no injection, no dyes and no oral pills.

Report with Specialist Review & Recommendation

A thorough review with Thoracic Surgeon Dr Aneez Ahmed, together with a report and his recommendations.

How does it work?

EarlyCDT – Lung

EarlyCDT - Lung is a simple blood test to spot people with an increased risk of lung cancer.

This blood draw will be collected by a phlebotomist in-clinic, in ICTS, which will then be sent for a lab test.

EarlyCDT-Lung can detect lung cancer-associated autoantibodies on average four years or more before the standard of care.

Low-Dose CT Scan

Low-dose computed tomography (also called a low-dose CT scan) is a newer form of CT scan that continuously rotates in a spiral motion and take several 3-dimensional X-rays of the lungs.

These X-rays are very detailed and can show early-stage lung cancers that may be too small to be detected by a traditional X-ray. Traditional X-rays only identify cancers the 1cm or larger, while a low dose CT scan can detect lung abnormalities the size of a grain of rice. The smaller the tumour is when it’s detected, the less likely the cancer have spread. This means more treatment options and a higher chance of survival.

This scan is quick and painless; it takes only 1 minute, there is no injection, no dyes no oral pills

Who Should Be Screened?

This yearly lung cancer screening is recommended for people who

  • Are smokers or ex-smokers
  • Have family history of lung cancer
  • Are cancer survivors from lung or other cancers
  • Work in hazardous industries (i.e. exposure to chemicals, spray-painting, ship building, asbestos, radioactive materials)
